Litter Pick 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 9:52 am

Last month the whole school took part in a litter pick to help keep our school clean.

After the event each class compiled all their information about different types of litter found and wrote a report and created graphs.  In P6P we got into groups and each group worked together and wrote a different part of the report. We then put all the pieces together and created a whole class effort.

Please read our report and have a look at our pictures of the day!

Our rainforest tour

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 12:41 pm

Today we flew our visitors to the rainforest and gave them a guided tour around its delights and told them lots of information about life in the rainforest.  Thank you to all of the donations that people made to our Protect An Acre fund and we will let you know as soon as we can how much money we managed to raise.

We had a really busy day and will post pictures and videos as soon as we can.

The day we became teachers

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 11:02 am

Today in Set Maths we swapped roles and each of us became teachers!  We worked in our groups to solve the answers to a given question. We then we got paired up with someone else in the class who was doing a different question and we had to teach eachtpher how we worked out the answer.

It helped us to remember the processes we went through in our heads to work out the answer.

Here we are being teachers for the day!

Our visit to the Rainforest Research Lab

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 10:10 am

On Wednesday 25th February we travelled to the Rainforest Research Lab.  We meant  Daisy (or Ditzy Daisy as her boss called her!) who told us that the head scientists were on an exploration into the rainforest so she was sneaking us into the lab to help her with her jobs!

We all got a chance to try out different tasks like using our sense of smell to figures out the foods, we had to help Daisy match the medicine tubs to their plant of origin using the clues we had and we also enjoyed sketching some of the unusual shaped fruits.

Some of us with Daisy.

These are some of the fuits that we drew as they had strange shapes and some had very unusual textures – do you know what they all are?

Here we are trying our best to be budding artists to record these unusual shapes.

Trying to match up the medicines with their plants of origin.  All we had were some clues to help (We think Diasy was being sneaky getting us to do her job for her - we wonder if her boss knew?!)

Using nothing but our sense of smell to try and work out what products or foods were in the plastic containers.  We did quite well but were a little thrown by vanilla as we didn’t know you could buy it at home in liquid form.

Daisy told us how the Research Lab wanted to have their very own identity and got us to write a rap to help them protmote the lab when they go visiting inportant conventions around the world.  We had lots of fun and came up with some very entertaining raps!

We were disappointed when we had to leave but Daisy’s boss was due back very soon and we didn’t want her to get into trouble!

Rainforest village rebuilt!

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 9:31 am

Well it was a lot of hard work but we managed it.  After lots of planning and building the new village is finally built.  Our villagers were extremely happy with their new homes and couldn’t wait to get move in.

Here they are with their new homes!

Esuvies with his new home – his favourite bit is the lovely wooden floor.

Hiwanai thought his new home was even better than his last one!

Hasha could not wait to get moved in!

Rhiany and her family finally have a brand new home.

Bravo Jaba was so glad his family had a new palce to live.

Leilo loved her new home and her family was so happy with where they were going to be living.

Hifoo was really pleased when he was shown the new home that he and his family were going to live in.

Here are some pictures of the whole village – we are so glad we could help these people after the heartache they had suffered.

The villagers were so grateful of our hard work that they kept to their promise and treated us to a tropical feast including dragon fruit, mango, ugli fruit and even some chocolate!

Just have a look at the wonderful food they prepared for us…..

Raising money for the rainforest

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 12:26 pm

Over the next couple of weeks we will be preparing for and carrying out our fundraising events to help raise money to donate to the World Land Trust to help protect the world’s rainforests.

We have ordered some animal and fruit themed items that we are going to sell to children around the school. Have a look at the things we have bought.

Not only do we have these products to sell, we will also be designing and making some badges to promote saving the rainforest.  We are also gong to have some fun making dream catchers, magnets and tribal jewellery to sell too.

We worked in groups to work out our expected income and outgoings are were able to work out our estimated profit from the whole thing.  If all goes to plan we should be able to raise quite a bit of money so fingers crossed!

Village Disaster :(

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 7:17 am

Whilst we were trekking through the rainforest we discovered that our villagers had lost their homes due a disaster caused by a nearby logging company.

We agreed to help them rebuild their village and set about designing and building them new homes.  We knew it was going to be hard work but they had been so friendly to us and they promised us the reward of a tropical feast once the job was complete!

Here are pictures of us working hard to design an build their new village.

Supergrounds

Filed under: Uncategorized —— missprocek @ 11:25 am

Tracey from RBS enjoyed working with our class so much that she wanted to come back and see us again. She came in and worked with us on something called “Supergrounds”. We were working in pairs and had to design a playground that included lots of different features to cater for all ages. We were given a budget of £9000 and not only did we have to stay within our budget we had to remember all the important things like paths and benches – if we forgot to put these in we had to start from scratch! (and we can tell you this happened more than once!)
